A research group of Associate Prof Katsuhiko Hayashi and Professor Saito, Graduate School of Medicine, used pluripotent stem cells from mice to successfully fabricated the eggs for the procreation of mice from the eggs. The research group, which had been successful in making sperm cells from male stem cells, have now produced eggs from stem cells for the first time. The eggs were fertilized and have produced baby mice which on reaching maturity can procreate.

The research group this time, from which to make sperm and egg cells iPS cells and ES of female mouse primordial germ cell. After incubation they transplanted the fertilized eggs int female mice where they wereallowed to mature and were born from the females in whch they had been transplated. They got a healthy mkce throughin vitro fertilization. They also found that these mice grow normally, have the ability to make a child.
It is expected the research will contribute to the elucidation of the mechanism by which the the egg will be formed. It is also expected the technology will also help determine the cause of infertility.
The results of this research have been published in “Science express” an online bulletin of the magazine Science in United States (U.S. Eastern Time),on October 04, 2012.
